If you’re like most of our clients, you want to know who is behind the keyboard, typing up the content that will draw your customers in. Do they care, and what exactly motivates them to write for you? Well, if you work with Creative Campbellville, one of your writers will be me, Ellysa Chenery. I’m happy to answer those questions for you.

How I Got Started Writing

I earned a Master’s Degree in English Literature from the University of Toronto. Since then, I have spent four years as a freelance writer for all kinds of clients. Over that time, I have figured out what kind of writing I’m best at and have narrowed my focus to writing for businesses. With every piece of writing, I seek to find a real value or answer a question the reader may actually ask.

It’s this focus on value that I enjoy most about my work. I want my readers, your customers, to come away with the sense that they have spent their time well. That can benefit you in any number of ways, from increasing sales to boosting your brand reputation.

My Favorite Projects

Writing for Creative Campbellville has bought many interesting projects my way. Recently, I re-wrote the copy for a pet store’s website. It was an interesting challenge to reorganize, refocus, and update the copy, especially as a dog owner. The client needed to focus more on SEO but integrate the keywords naturally in high-quality content. As the pet store focuses on the highest quality pet products, the copy had to be top-notch too.

Another one of our clients has recently taken a new direction with their business. Instead of being a garden supply center, they wanted to focus more on their landscape supply products. They would sell fewer plants and more interlocking and topsoil. So, their content plan had to change. I shifted from topics intended to attract gardeners to those that landscape companies or DIY landscapers would more appreciate. It’s critical for content to reflect our client’s business goals.

What Else Should You Know About Me?

Unlike many writers, I don’t shy away from the “boring” or “technical” subjects. I delight in spending time learning about industries and products the average person would yawn over. In fact, some of my favourite clients to write for are a sewer repair technician, an invoice factoring company, and an adhesive manufacturer.

Interviewing subject matter experts (SMEs) is also particularly rewarding to me. It’s very satisfying to speak with someone about a subject they’re an expert on because you’re sure to learn something. Plus, showing experts how to take their jargon-filled knowledge and make it understandable to their average customer is exciting for the client and me.

So, if you have a subject that you think is complicated, send it my way!
